Alert to Parents

All babies are tested at birth in South Carolina for a variety of genetic traits and disorders.  Sickle Cell Disease is included in this panel of testing.

To be responsible for all children identified for assistance, parents are asked to do the following:

  1.  Keep counseling appointments regarding sickle cell trait and disease.​
  2. Keep treatment appointment and follow-up for patients with sickle cell disease.

Did you know...

A man and a woman with the sickle cell trait have a 25% chance of having a baby with sickle cell disease every time a pregnancy occurs.
